The Hobbit

Ok, well when I first heard they were making a hobbit movie I was absolutely thrilled. Growing up the Rankin/Bass Hobbit was probably my favorite movie, and I've read the book multiple times as both a child and an adult(it's probably the only book I've ever reread as a matter of fact). My enthusiasm was tempered when I heard they were turning this 300 page book in to 3, 3 hr movies. I mean the little horrible animated film.....that I love dearly...was like 1.5 hours and fairly well covered the whole book. Then I read more about how they were expanding the story adding the short stories from the appendices etc, sooooo I guess they could stretch it I just don't know. I will say I was pleasantly surprised, there were a lot of things that I just didn't care for, it did have a tendency to drag and be a little ridiculous on occasion but in the end I thought most of the changes were made for the right reasons.

So the movie starts off the day of Bilbo's party, essentially it's the beginning of LOTR(Lord of the Rings). Bilbo is writing his book and telling Frodo his story. How he met gandalf, how he came to posses the ring, etc. it's a fairly well known story so I'm staying away from details and I'm gonna do my quick run down of what I liked and what I didn't.

What I liked? The misty mountain cold song! IT WAS AWESOME! The dwarves were given more character than they had in the books, I mean before this movie I could only name Gloin and that's because he was mentioned in LOTR, but in the book they were essentially non existent characters, now they were distinct and different enough to make me care about them. That being said I didn't really like all of the new dwarf personalities.

What I disliked? OH MY GOD! The one liners! I think there was a one liner every 3.8 seconds. there is one scene in the cave where it is almost literally that long in between the one liners. The dwarves can be too goofy, there's a little to much "over the topness?" with the action. Which all stems from the fact that it was supposed to be a lighter tone movie that they tried to make a heavier tone and couldn't really find the middle ground between the two (I feel).

This movie is still beautiful and a ton of fun. If you liked LOTR, then you'll probably have a good time with this. If you didn't? then don't see it. I will say it drags a lot more than the first 3, but still well worth the 3 hours.

Skyfall

First off let me say, if you were to hand pick someone to review a bond movie, it wouldn't be me. Most of these movies I just find boring, and the more recent ones I've found unwatchable, with the exception of Quantum of Solace, or Quantum Solstice? whatever it was called. That one I just never watched. With that being said, the fact that people go and see skyfall, and openly talk in public about how awesome they think it was, makes me lose all hope for humanity. This plot was incredibly overly complicated, kinda like "The Dark Knight" but unlike "The Dark Knight" where the joker made moves that directed batman to a point and purpose, this one has pretty much nothing of relevance happen in between the opening scene and the end of the movie. you can almost jump from 15 minutes in to the end and not miss anything. Not to mention the details that don't seem to just go anywhere. I will give them kudos for giving James Bond obstacles to over come, but then again he kinda just had problems and they went away without being mentioned ever again.

Ok, so the movie starts out with bond fighting a guy there's a long case scene, they are fighting on top of a train bond has been shot already and his partner Eve (who is absolutely lovely) shoots him accidentally when given the order to take a shot that was maybe a little less than "clean." So Bond is now dead, and we go to Adele song for the movie, It was enjoyable. This is where my enjoyment for this movie started to falter. James bond spends some time drinking with Scorpions on his hand but then randomly decides being dead isn't fun anymore and he wants to go back to work because MI6 blew up. ....oh yeah that happened too. Then he fails a bunch of tests and M tells him he's good to go. He then meets an overly flamboyant villain who spends a lot of time touching his thighs and not much time touching the thighs of the woman who bond recently slept with. Bond arrests him completely forgetting for a minute that he can't shoot anymore, despite the fact that it was LITERALLY JUST POINTED OUT SECONDS AGO! I'm not joking the villain(I can't even remember his name I think they said it once) he literally just called in to question bonds shaky marksmanship, Bond demonstrates how shaky his marksmanship STILL IS and then he supermans 3 guys dead by gunning them down. Did I miss something? why was this forgotten within SECONDS!?! Also at a certain point the villain points out that M has lied to bond about all his tests, this is also never mentioned again. Bond is just kinda like "Ehhh I'm cool with this" and then they forget it. Then this overly complicated thing happens for which I'm starting a new paragraph because this is where I REALLY started to hate this movie.

Ok So this may contain some spoilers, if you don't wish to read spoilers please don't read this coming up paragraph. but it is the complainyest part of my review.

Again, They've arrested the villain and M talks to him tells bond how great he was Q looks in to his computer and finds this code that keeps reworking it's self and Bond, is like  "wait look at those highlighted letters I noticed but you, super genius Q, didn't!" and that decrypts a map and opens all the doors. Q mentions how this nefarious plan had to have taken years of planning, there's a chase through the tunnel and there's also an explosion that has a train chasing Bond! The villain then walks in to a trail that M is at and tries to shoot her. This huge nefarious plan that took years to plan is essentially no more complex than something your disgruntled mailman has done 45 times. Now it's been brought up to me he wanted to discredit M, ok he'd done that in the very first scene, He wanted M to watch her men die, second scene, he wanted her to know it was him. All these things were established WELL before this incredibly overly complicated plan happened, so what was the point? he could've hopped a plan to london and offed her at any point? walked in to her flat and had a nice long conversation, walked in to her pre-determined trail and off her like he'd planned. What was all this exploding train BS and the super virus that opened all the doors? you could literally just cut a paste the film together and add the random exposition that is already RIFF through this thing and lose NOTHING!

ok Spoilers done, things I liked about it, like I said there were obstacles for Bond to over come, despite the fact that he didn't actually grow or overcome anything they did TRY. There's a lot of fun dialogue between him and Eve, Daniel Craig and that woman I felt had good Chemistry. There's more bad than good, in fact it's mostly bad. I could not stand this movie. that's about it ENJOY!

if you're a bond fan see it you'll like it I repeat, I don't watch bond movies and have similar feelings about all of them.

Sinister!!!!!!

I liked it! So go see it and that's it!

not enough? FINE! I guess I'll have to write more! This movie is good but it's not without its flaws. For example, it has a lot in common with the shining, there are a couple plot points that go no where and are eventually dropped, some things have overly condescending explanations.

So this movie is about the Ellison Oswalt, and his immediate family. Ellison is kinda a sad sack, he wrote a best seller true crime novel roughly 10 years ago and was never able to recapture that success. He left his home and moves in to a crime scene to work on another true crime story. He doesn't tell his wife that they're living in the scene of a murder! This obviously comes up later and is not a fun conversation to have. Either way, while moving boxes around places he finds a box in his attic, this box is filled with super 8 films he watches them and they're all videos of murders, one having taken place in that particular house. These murders span the course of roughly 50 years, Ellison begins to put together a pattern for the murder and becomes more and more obsessed with the murders and starts drinking yada yada yada. It's a fairly common story. Ellison is a pretty pathetic character watching his old interviews from his hit book late at night and hoping he can accomplish that goal again.

Ok, so anyways, problems: Ellison is forgettable he's so forgettable that I actually had to look up what his name was. His wife is even more forgettable, I did look up her name and STILL can't remember it! I'm not joking, the wikipedia page is open but I'd have to go back to it and I'm just not up for that. Secondly, some of the photography stuff as well as a lot of the plot seem to be almost.....well you could've called this "The Shining Part 2: Shine Harder" I mean with the exception of the whole isolation aspect, which is the scariest part of The Shining! There's a lot of silly music queue's that are like "BE SCARED NOW!" There's also quite a bit of explaining, it's a movie here people, show don't tell. The thing that really drove me nuts is the family murdered in the house the Oswalt's are living in were hung, a tree branch was cut and the weight of the branch lifted 4 people. Forgetting that branch would have to weigh like let's say 300lbs, when the Oswalt's moved in, no one bothered to clean it up! the same damn branch is sitting there a year later! The only specific example of a plot line that was dropped was the son's night terrors but that might have been an intentional mislead so I'll let that one go. There were others and I can't remember them so they weren't that important,

Likes!: Lots of good scares lots of quality tension, has a fairly decent and unraveled plot, Ethan Hawke isn't awful, he's just kinda forgettable. The kids did a good job of actually acting so nothing wrong there. I absolutely loved some of the cinematography, there's a lot of super 8 videos in this and sometimes the film skips a little, same thing happens in a couple different scenes when you're not watching super 8 video.

From the producers of Insidious, the guy only makes 1 word titled movies with titles that mean "Bad" Stay tuned for review of "Malicious" sometime in 2013

Paranormal Activity 4

Sooo apparently Paranormal activity is going to be coming out every october until the creators die or they no longer are profitable. Either way, the first one was good, the second one had problems, the third, while I loved some of the new effects I thought it was probably the worst. SO, I wasn't excited to see this one, they've effectively gone downhill each time I've seen them. But it's MY JOB to watch movies...not really, no one pays me for this shit. It's my HOBBY to watch movies and then write about them, and it's halloween and I've watched NO horror movies.

Ok, so The first PA is about Micah and Katie, they have a run in with a demon. The second is a prequel that involves Katie from the first and her sister's family. SPOILER ALERT

At the end, Katie kills everyone and steals her sisters son!!!!!

Spoiler alert over.

Ok so now the third was a pre-prequel that really doesn't need to be explained. So This one takes place with Katie and Hunter, and explains what happens 6 years after the events of the first movie.

Problems - Most of the camera shots are from mac webcams, which is fine but the last one had a lot of fun moving cameras, this one didn't mostly static shots unless they were using the silly walking around with your camera and screaming BS. Still you never once got sick because of the camera. Most of the side characters kinda seems underdeveloped, the kids did a great job but the parents are pretty much non factors. LOTS of product placement, Gnarly head wine, Pepsi, xbox 360, are just a few that stood out. Finally, there's a big gap in the story from the first and they explain nothing about this creepy child who just shows up and apparently is a witch of some sort? not sure where he came from but whatever.

Things I liked - The stuff with the kinect was cool (yes they blatantly use the kinect to record shit) The story was interesting, despite being vague.

If you were a fan of the first three, this is a must see, if you just kinda liked the first three then this one is still fun and a welcome addition, but if you didn't like them at all, I wouldn't recommend it. Basically, this one isn't going to bring in any new fans, it was fun and enjoyable, but ultimately follows the same formula as the other 3.

Dead Set

So it's October, which means it's almost halloween and I have done.....absolutely nothing Halloweeny. Allow me to explain. I work at a restaurant part time between my research shifts and everyone else who does my job quit, so I've been working 6 days a week about 5pm - 1 or 2 am and I can't watch horror movies during the day or do anything at night really! Also my vet school apps are finally in and I took a week off and went to New Orleans, I made a wish on the tomb of marie laveau and did a ghost tour where I had the pleasure of seeing Nick Cage's New Orleans home. Which apparently is a horrifying horrifying place.

http://www.prairieghosts.com/lalaurie.html seriously, absolutely horrifying. But that was my "YEAH! I DON'T HAVE TO FILL OUT APPS ANYMORE BECAUSE I'M DONE BUT NOW I'M JUST WAITING" Present to myself.

sooooooooooooo, Dead set. Anyone seen it? This was a tv show produce by channel 10 (I believe) in England. The plot is pretty simple, during the filming of Big Brother, a zombie apocalypse breaks out. The people inside the house are confused and don't really know what to do because Big brother isn't talking to them and they can't leave the house. Eventually, a production assistant manages to break in to the house and has a hell of a time explaining to the contestants on Big Brother that people are in fact eating people, what ensues is both intense and hilarious.

Soooooo (for my third time using So but with extended ooooo's) this was given to me for my birthday, it is a little expensive but it is also only 6 episodes and just so much fun. If you're a fan of Zombie fiction or even a fan of the UK version of Big Brother this is definitely for you. check it out!

So no more personal drama.....wait no let's not do that. how about i give you a much more detailed review in the next week about PA4 and Sinister! BETTER PLAN!

Paranorman

I have a thing for stop-motion animation, and this year there appear to be 3 stop-motion movies that have either been released or are being released. Paranorman is the second of these three films and probably the one I was the most excited for. Why? I don't really know, it just seemed cute and I really wanted to see it. So, I watched it, and it wasn't the least bit disappointed. Great music, great special effects, really good animation, excellent sets.

The movie is about a little boy who sees ghosts. It starts off with him watching a movie with his grandmother who tells him he should get his father to turn up the heat, her toes are freezing. When he tells his dad this he freaks out and tells him again, his grandmother died months ago. I believe the city name was Blithe Hallows, which is a city that had a good ole fashion witch burning. This witch, while being burnt, cursed the city. Norman's crazy uncle, Mr. Pendergrast, had been keeping this curse at bay for years and had similar abilities to talk to the dead. Early in the film he dies and passes the torch to Norman who kinda botches his first attempt to keep the curse at bay. It then becomes a battle for Norman, his sister, his best friend among several others to figure out how to break the curse.

This movie is not for the weak at heart. It is very much an adultish kids movie. Norman at times bleeds which is probably what surprised me the most, not only at one point is he violently assaulted. That's beside the point the movie is BEAUTIFUL, with well designed characters and sets, as well as very very good animation and music. The jokes are few and far between, but there are a few that made me laugh out loud. mostly it was just a really good time, and if you want a fun, exciting movie this one is DEFINITELY for you. Enjoy!

The Liebster Award

Ahhh finally recognition for my mild work ethic. The Liebster is an award that's passed from blogger to blogger as a recognition of quality work. I received mine from The Movie Labyrinth. To accept the award there are rules which must be followed however:
 1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves
 2. Answer the 11 questions the person giving the award has set for you.
 3. Create 11 questions for the people you will be giving the award to.
 4. Choose 11 people to award and send them a link to your post.
 5. Go to their page and tell them.
 6. NO TAG BACKS.
 Eleven things about myself
 1) I LOVE TACOS! I could eat tacos all day everyday.
 2) people think I'm full of myself.
 3) I'm currently applying to vet school.
4) I have my A&P final tomorrow and I'm incredibly underprepared for it.
 5) I think I have a serious candy addiction. The other day I felt like crap all day got home and ate a handful of skittles and all of a sudden I was fine. seems to be happening a lot these days.
6)I need to get my cat shaved, because he's filled with mats from my little sisters puppy, who just wants to play with the cat but doesn't realize that the cat hates everything about him and would kill him in his sleep.
 7) despite the fact that I run a media blog, I really don't consume all that much media.
 8) If you mix skittles and sweet tarts together, you create a flavor explosion in your mouth.
 9) I have a serious problem coming up with 11 things about myself because I blank every time I start a new number
10) I should expand number 1 to pretty much all mexican food.
 11) at least two of these haven't been about me at all!

 11 questions
 1. What is your guilty pleasure (movie or otherwise)? do I only get to pick one? movie I'd have to go with "The Halloween Tree" made for TV movie, i watch it every halloween and if I don't then I get really grumpy.
 2. Do you see your blog as anything more than a hobby? It's my creative outlet kinda, it started out as just me blogging about what movies I was watching around Halloween then it was year round because I watch movies year round, but it's been fun.
 3. What is your favourite ever kids' film and why? I'm a really big fan of all pixar movies, how to train your dragon, the muppet movies with the exception of muppets in space and the ones not released theatrically.
 4. If you had to delete one film genre from the course of history, what would it be? bromance movies. the fact that my computer recognizes bromance as a word is reason enough. But they're not funny, they're not entertaining but EVERYBODY loves them! I don't understand why or how these are popular!
 5. Do you have a movie that everyone loves but you just don't get? (And I mean good movies, not Twilight or something like that). The Hangover! for reasons shown above.
 6. If you had the opportunity to interview any film-related person ever, who would it be?
 7. What's your day job? I'm a barback at the moose preserve I'm also a research assistant at wayne state university currently studying prostate cancer 8. Is there anywhere that you have never visited, but always wanted to? most of europe. been overseas but europe is too expensive these days.
 9. What movie never gets old for you? Scott Pilgram vs the World, also how to train your dragon.
 10. What is the weirdest thing you have seen or the weirdest thing you have ever done? filled out these questions instead of studying for my final tomorrow. Also I once chased a penguin very slowly down a staircase.....it was adorable.
 11. Would you rather have to erase your top ten favourite movies of all time from complete existence (so that no one knows they ever existed except you) or never be able to watch a movie again yourself? I have a hard time convincing anyone to watch movies I like anyways. So probably erase them from existence.

 Make up 11 questions
 1) Do you find 31 year old research assistant/barbacks attractive
 2) are you sure?
 3) if you were to write a movie about a 31 year old research assistant/barback who would you get to play the love interest?
 4) Sweet tarts or sprees?
5) really?
 6) Matt Damon or Ben Affleck?
 7) Which version of Bennifer did you prefer Garner or Lopez?
 8) in the event of a zombie apocalypse, who would you want to shoot you in the face in the event that you became zombified?
9) who would you want to shoot in the face in the event they are zombified?
 10) Smooth or creamy peanut butter?
 11) have you ever had a dream where you lose all your teeth or they're broken and become gross looking stubs?
11 people you're giving the award too? I only regularly follow 3 people, one gave me this award so the other two are Mandy at Mandy's Morgue or Horror and my long time collaborator Jim at I probably liked it

The Dark Knight Rises

I need to remember to actually REVIEW the movies I see. It's been a long week but somehow I convinced myself that I already reviewed the dark knight rises. First off, if you haven't seen this movie, please do. It was well worth the trip to the theaters. If you've already seen this movie then stop reading here, because you've already formed your own opinion what the crap do you need mine for? FIRST, This is the third in the christopher nolan Batman movie and the end of the trilogy. So, if you're not familiar with the story here goes. Harvey Dent is dead, a law was in acted that allowed the police in gotham to crack down on organized crime. This is all based on the lie that Harvey Dent was a hero and not in fact two-face. So this allowed Batman, who is currently seen as a criminal, to go on a little break. In this time frame BRuce Wayne's knees have gotten all jacked up and he sits in a corner of his mansion not living his life. At this point, events start happening in Gotham that need batman's attention and so he's forced out of retirement. Similar to The Dark Knight Rises by Frank Miller. now my complaints, Bane's voice annoyed the shit out of me. He was raised in a South American prison and he talks like an englishmen wearing a scuba suit with a giant popsicle stick up his ass. It was really annoying. Second complaint(BIT OF A SPOILER SPOILER ALERT) would have to be the Robin character. They made up their own, which I assume is so they didn't give away early that he was in fact robin, but then at the end when they tell you his legal name it turns out to be "Robin" why is that? because if the woman at the end had said "Mr. Grayson" not everyone would've gotten it. That's seriously about it, everyone puts in great performances, the story is solid, I had no real complaints. I'm told there's a clue as to which earth this takes place on and I'm happy to report I'm not a big enough dork to remember. Either way, Now that this trilogy is over, I'd like DC Studios to do something a little more comicy for the next Batman relaunch. They won't, BUT I like my comic movies to be escapism and these are great films, but I find myself more drawn to the marvel universe because those movies are pure escapist fun.

Jack The Giant Killer

I LOVED this movie growing up. I remember getting up early saturday morning if I knew it was going to be on and watching it, or getting REALLY pissed off every time I turned on the TV only to realize I'd woken up late and missed 63% of it(exactly 63%). Like many movies in my childhood it disappeared in to complete obscurity. Looking back at it I was surprised at how much I continued to like it. Don't get me wrong it's kinda hilarious at points, but for a movie made in the 1960's I mean the special effects were every bit as good as some of Ray Harryhausen's stuff, so good I actually thought it was a Ray Harryhausen movie until just recently when I tried to find it on his IMDB page and can't seem to find any connection with him to this film. This movie is about an evil wizard, Pendragon, who wants to kidnap a princess. Why? That's what evil wizards do! They also control giants and little dwarfish men and turn vikings in to dogs. True story I saw this all happen! Either way, in his attempt to capture the princess the evil wizard pendragon releases a giant on the the castle who then captures the princess. Jack of course manages to save this princess and kill the dragon. The king gives him a knighthood, I'm sure he also bestowed lands as well as all their incomes but that's not really talked about. The king then asks a poor farmer, who kinda only luckily killed a giant, to please escort his daughter across the sea. They then fall in love, HILARITY INSUES! Of course the evil wizard manages to capture the princess, jack meets up with a viking and an annoying child and they have to go save her. In his quest he battles sea monsters, other giants, guys in armor who kinda just wobble back and forth but don't really do much else, a dragon type thing. He also gets a leprechaun who can only speak in rhyme.....it gets old quick. Like I said, this was THE movie for me growing up, this is actually the first movie I remember loving, so i was really hesitant to watch it. IF you're someone who would hate effects made before 1995, then don't watch it. They're at times hard to watch, but most of that isn't in the stop motion bits, it's more in the fact that this was a cheap cheap movie and some of the props look like they could've been purchased at wal-mart. The hardest part for me is just the rhyming fucking leprechaun! OH MY GOD! I kinda want to kill myself whenever he's on screen! apart from that if you're a fan of clash of the titans, or the sinbad movies, this is worth checking out. If you would rather have your testicles dragged across hot charcoal rather than watch those movies, well this isn't for you.

New Scissor Sisters Album! Magic Hour

Since we got this new blogger layout BS my blog is being a complete ass, If anyone knows how to solve some simple formatting issues with their blogs please let me know. THAT BEING SAID! When I heard the scissor sisters were coming out with a new album, I dusted off my sparkly purple shirt, leather pants and prepared to dance! Then I promptly forgot it was coming out! Yes, I know I'm a wonderful fan! Shut up, I'm a busy guy and if you're going to keep judging me then maybe you should just go away. SO, I finally purchased said album. While yes, I generally say this is a horror movie blog it's really just a "Media that I'm in to" blog. I mean I've covered the thundercats TV show for christ sake. Every now and again a band that gets me really excited, I just like to review their album. So, First off I started listening to the Scissor Sisters slightly before their second album was released, I liked it ok, I mean it wasn't great but it was a lot of fun. Their second album was released and I couldn't wait for a third! That album pretty much defined a lot of the music I listened to for the next couple years. When their third album was finally released I was just as pleased, the songs were memorable, catchy, bouncy and just good good fun. So, naturally they had a lot to live up to when they released their fourth album, and while for any other band in the world, this is a wonderful and fun album. The problem for me is i've come to expect too much from the scissor sisters, and so for me, this album was a bit of a disappointment. ok going through it song by song Baby Come Home one of the singles and definitely sounds like it. Also isn't this video cool? I also like that more of the band got involved with this video. Regardless, this song probably is the most "singy" track. As a result I like it, I do feel overall he tends to do a bit to much of his falsetto voice. Keep your shoes on Not my favorite track, but this is where it starts to get a little more falsetto, not that there's anything wrong with that, but like I said it seems a bit over done. Not much of a beat not very dancey. Why do I listen to the sisters? because I want to dance motherfucker! Inevitable One of my favorite tracks. You get a real sense of Jack's vocal range, the keyboard part is nice, it's still not dancey but it has more of the qualities that I look for in scissor sister songs. Only the Horses I feel like this song kinda shows the most growth as a band, Jack really uses his voice, the keyboards are a lot of fun, I don't feel like it's a watered down version of another track from a better album. Very happy with this one. Year of Living Dangerously Best Chorus, problem? I don't remember ANYTHING ELSE from this song. I actually had to re-listen (after listening to this album 3 times today to make sure I didn't make any jumpy opinions) I almost forgot it even existed! It's good, and it's really nice, the chorus, like i said is great! but obviously the rest of the song isn't that memorable. Let's have Kiki Least favorite. I actually wanted to skip it every time I listened to it. I'll probably love it next year some time but it's just a repetitive mess, and not in like the good repetitive mess type way. Shady Love Ton of fun, really hard to sing along to. This is a good type of repetitive, enough to keep me listening, hooks to make me remember, loved it. San Luis Obispo Very little current opinion. I liked it because it showed a lot of growth there is nothing like this on any of their other albums. Wasn't entirely sure it fit the album, but so it can be jarring listening to Shady love and then this more acousticy ballad, but still. Self Control Couldn't find a video so here's an asian man covering Only The Horses on his piano. Which I really enjoy............really pretty on piano. Best in Me I couldn't find a video for this either. So here's a creepy guy singing it.......This is one of my favorites, not when this guy sings it. Also I can't find the other two. Somewhere I really enjoyed, and the secret life of letters kinda lost me. F*** yeah, while only on the deluxe edition was one of my favorites. don't expect a rehash of what you got before, and you'll be happy, but don't expect as much dancey fun either it's a lot slower this time around. Which is a sign of maturing and aging by the band, and I don't have a problem with it but I feel like they still want the sound from album 3 so this particular album comes off just eh, caught between. It's worth it, but there is just something missing for me at least.

Brave

Pixar is probably the best company in hollywood. They've made some of the greatest kids movies of all time, but when they announced that they were releasing Cars 2 I was hesitant, I still haven't seen it I heard it's terrible and, if true, it breaks their incredible streak of not just great kids movies, but great films. So, brave made me a little hesitant. Would they find that magic again, or did cars 2 mark the end of a generation of films made by pixar that pressed the boundaries of children's film making and really challenged their audience? The movie is set in Scotland, and is about a young red haired girl. This young red haired girl, Merida, doesn't want to be a princess. She would rather just ride her horse and shoot her bow and be a bit of a tomboy. Her mother doesn't like that, she wants Merida to get married to a husband who wins her hand at a tournament, to be held relatively soon in the film. Now, Merida is allowed to choose the contest for the tournament that is used to determine who will be marrying her. She picks archery, and then decides to shoot for her own hand. She wins, this could cause the potential break out of war between the clans of her people. So, to solve these problems she turns her mom in to a bear......I'm sure those were related somehow. This is one of the prettier pixar movies, the animation is absolutely beautiful and one thing pixar has never done wrong is make their films great eye candy for the big dorks coming to see them. The settings are all really nice despite taking place mostly in the surrounding area of Merida's castle. The 3 siblings of Merida's don't have a single speaking line, which is good. Sidekicks who talk to much end up really annoying. The cast gives a really good performance and the message which is essentially about the importance of listening to your loved ones, is solid and memorable. So, what problems did I have with it? It was good I really enjoyed it, but I took a girl who had recently lost her mother. By the end we were blubbering very loudly. I also don't feel it's as great as Wall-E or Up, but certainly not a blemish on their record. Those are difficult movies to follow. I'd have to say my biggest complaint was the woman 4 seats down from me. You would think she had never seen a movie as funny in her ENTIRE LIFE! Even the smallest most insignificant joke was met with HUGE belly laughter from this woman. The 3 siblings steal pastries like 3 times and absolutely every time was met with "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA" and not to mention the over exasperated Gasps EVERY time she realized that the movie was going to try and move the plot forward. I've been told it's really easy to be an idiot, I should've asked her. End of story, if it was fun and enjoyable. see it if you've got the time it was well worth the money.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

There are very few times in my life where you can tell me that it's a bad idea to put Abraham Lincoln in to situations that he's not normally associated with and I won't find it funny. Abraham Lincoln Pilates, Abraham Lincoln Girls Gone Wild, So when a bunch of stoned teenagers somehow got the power to make a movie, and decided to do an adaptation of the novel "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" I was genuinely excited to see it. Don't get me wrong I expected it to be unwatchable, but I also expected to have fun, only one of these things happened, and I'll let you know I did not have fun. First off, the book. For what it's worth I hear it's a rather boring read, and a fairly informative biography of abraham lincoln....with vampires thrown in. The movie is pretty similar, it's essentially Abraham Lincoln's life, just throw in a vengeance plot and some other vampires. So, I'm not gonna go to deep in to the plot. As a boy Abraham Lincoln got in a fight with a vampire slave owner, that owner killed his mother, he in turn wants revenge. So Where does this movie go wrong? Well, first off the vampires, they explain SOME lore in this. They're allergic to silver and they can't kill each other. AWESOME! Can they go out in sunlight? cause they do quite often, but then again they always seem to be lurking at night? I guess it's easier to kill at night but this point was never cleared up. IN fact the only things they ever bothered to talk about was the silver and vampires lack of ability to kill each other. This isn't a huge deal but they apparently had some sort of vampire hierarchy and were heavy in the slave trade using the slaves as food. Barely touched on at all, I guess I'm just supposed to assume that this is what's happening. Also, BTW this is a movie that very clearly spelt out everything for the audience. I mean they left a bullet in one vampires eye I can only assume to make sure the audience knew who he was. Abraham shoots a vampire in the eye, his eye is apparently made of steel and it stops the bullet right at the end of the eyelid and he just walks around with that there the whole time. Can't go get a wood eye or something? glass? us a patch to cover up the empty socket that the bullet, which you could easily dislodge with your fingers, has apparently slightly damaged? But yet I can't get a simple explanation on the weaknesses of these vampires apart from silver and apparently axe twirling? Complaint number two, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was in this. This isn't normally a complaint, I've had a sick crush on this girl since Sky high(sick because she was playing a senior, she was like 23 it just seemed strange people) I personally think she's not a terrible actress, but this was a terrible performance, that being said no one could've done a good job at this, the script is awful. Then turn it down Mary. Also since I get more hits when I include pictures of women looking sexy, I choose to include I picture of the lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead. I love you Mary. I know I write a blog but I swear I'm slightly less creeepy than the normal media obsessed men who criticize films on the interwebs......love me. Moving on, The Vampire Party! There's a party for vampires. It kinda makes sense, but no matter how much I talked about it I couldn't bring myself to find any actual logic to this. OK, SO Abraham is killing vampires, they don't like it, so they steal his best friend. When they steal his best friend he takes a riverboat to New Orleans with his friend Speed. Here is where the movie really started to make me angry. At a certain point Speed proclaims "Abe is there nothing we can't do?" or some bullshit like that. They have literally done nothing. Abe works in his store, he's the stock boy there that's about all they've done together. Speed brought him to a party, not the vampire party a different party, also thrown apparently for no reason. So, he obviously should be believe him and Abe can take on an army of undead? because...they went to an upscale ball.....together....once? Moving on, they get there and the vampires are having a party, they invited all the slaves, the slaves are going to be eaten including Abe's friend will, who's actually not a slave I guess they just wanted the guests to have something to eat? They even sent him an invitation, like it's worked up as this big trap, all it really is? wasted time! essentially he could've just gone down there, ran in to the vampires, asked for his friend back and left. just as suspenseful. This is getting long and I'm definitely rambling, but rarely do I say "This is a waste of time and money" even this had some fun moments, but waste of time and money, wasn't even something I'd recommend to go see for fun stoned. It's that bad I don't believe illegal substances can save this movie.

Prometheus

Prometheus is a movie....... I've spent a lot of time working up a better opening than that and I just can't do it so I'm starting with that. First, let me say I enjoyed this. It was fun, the world was really well constructed, there are some good performances, and there were a lot of good scares I even jumped once. So in saying that, why was this billed as a prequel to Aliens? Where Alien was a fun simple story about an alien killing people, this was a little complex and I feel like it just was too big for its britches. The story is about a spaceship going to find the creators of man. Apparently all over the world these "Scientists" have found star maps leading back to a moon, this moon has the ability to support life, so they assume that the creators of man live there and that set off on a 4 year mission with a bunch of other scientists. On this planet they quickly find straight lines and decide this is where the creators are, because "god doesn't create in straight lines." This is where the movie started to piss me off. They're rare, but they happen, more often in space and in vacuums BUT this is an alien planet who knows how everything works, it's a pretty big assumption to make. This is where the big assumptions start too. There's a point where the doctors all take off their helmets, on an alien planet.....they're scientists, not ONE of them says "hey maybe we should be worried about alien microbes, or possible fungi that could be airborne." they're JUST concerned about whether the air is breathable after that they're cool. LATER however, after one of them gets sick it's all they talk about! Then there's the biologist. First off, the scientists in this movie are VERY general, and maybe the corporation sponsoring this mission WANTED general scientists, but there's specifically a geologist and a biologist. What type of geology? Alien planet geology? he says he likes rocks, so I assume he's a rock geologist but then why does he have equipment for cave spelunking? Then there's the biologist, Molecular? zoology? Agricultural? Botany? Microbiology? if he's at any point in his life studied living organisms, then why was he so eager to pet an unknown alien life form? again, having no clue what this thing was why was he so eager to pet it? This can go on for days. I like to think I can technically be classified as a scientist, I do research and am pursuing a degree in science, so while I can totally suspend my beliefs for acid blood alien lifeforms, it's really difficult to believe that any of these people made it through any type of post education program. All my complaints though, are little shit like that. I'd also say they didn't give you a good idea of how the aliens worked, but did that stuff need to be explained? Not really, why? in the end it'd just be pointless exposition. Just because it's something I would like to know doesn't mean it's something I need to know. Micheal Fassenbender and Noomi Repace both gave very solid preformances, it was fun, the end needed more work but it was still fun, and the special effects were really good. Going to see it wouldn't be a waste of time or money, just don't get your hopes up for the world's greatest film and try not to go in expecting Alien the prequel I think the movie would've been better left without that expectation placed on it.

Things that bugged me about "Jaws"

First, let me saw "Jaws" is one of my favorite movies of all time. There have always been a few things that just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. This weekend I had a chance to examine them when my scratched copy of the DVD kept going back to different spots and since I was to lazy to get up and turn it off or try and fix the DVD I watched these same spots over and over and over and over and over again. So I'm nice and pumped for this! There are really only two things that have ever bugged me, 1st is Mayor Larry Vaughn and his insistence that someone go in to the water on weekend where everything goes to hell and Jaws almost kills Chief Brody's kid. Why does this bug me? For the mayor his whole motivation is money for the town, so you've already got the tourists to the island. It's an island your audience is completely captive, what difference does it make if they go swimming or not? I do get the idea that some of these people may take another trip later and may decide to not come back as a result of not wanting to get eaten by a shark. The last thing he should want though is another incident, you've had two big ones, and it'd be a good idea to keep any future incidents to a minimum. This legitimately ruined the rest of the summer and probably put most of the population on welfare for the winter. Speaking of which, my idea for Jaws 2 would've had no shark in it at all! it would've been the population of Amity Island dealing with the poverty brought on by the loss of the summer income. The second thing that really bugged me was always just this quote from Mrs. Kintner. "I just found out, that a girl got killed here last week, and you knew it! You knew there was a shark out there! You knew it was dangerous! But you let people go swimming anyway? You knew all those things! But still my boy is dead now. And there's nothing you can do about it. My boy is dead. I wanted you to know that." Lady, your boy was swimming in THE FUCKING OCEAN! he had probably been swimming with sharks every fricking time he went in to the ocean and never even knew it! I get that she was sad and kind of looking for someone to blame and people didn't understand the nature of sharks and that they tend to not stay in the same place for long but end of story your kid went in to the ocean, he has been swimming with sharks plenty by that point. The greatest travesty in this movie is that Mrs. Kintner wasn't fed to the shark at some point.

Red State

Growing up I was a huge fan of Kevin Smith. I loved Mallrats, Clerks, Chasing Amy, and then something happened. Maybe I grew up, or Kevin Smith did or Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? Or even more likely Jersey girl happened. I had just kind of lost interest, I wasn't a fan of the humor, the characters had worn a bit thin for me at least and I think a little bit of the hipster in me hated it that everyone loved him at that point. I don't know I just stopped following his career. I did watch Clerks 2, Zac and Miri make a porno, and many of his other movies but I'd be lying if I said I saw those movies more than once, and to this day I haven't seen cop out and am just not interested. Then I was told on his new tour he's talking about the filming of "Red State." What is Red State you say? well if you were a Kevin Smith fan you would've probably heard of it, apparently it kinda caused a pretty huge stir in the religious community. I've realized I don't have a way out of this paragraph so I'm just gonna end it here and continue on. Red State takes place in middle America, 3 friends find a woman online who is willing to have sex with them, but ONLY if they will all have sex with her at the same time! They go to her trailer and instead of having sex with them she drugs them and brings them to her Church. Now her church is filled with weirdos, weirdos who want to kill homosexuals and people who have sex with women at the same time as two other men. Essentially compare it to Hostel, except crazy and not nearly as annoying because Eli Roth didn't make it! Essentially 3 horny guys get themselves in to trouble because they have penises. It's a story all to familiar to guys who met a girl online only to end up tortured by some strange death cult. Good things about this movie? The cast is great, John Goodman plays an ATF agent and plays it very well, there's Michael Angarano from Sky High, and while there are no huge names everyone in this movie is very good and very well cast to their part. It is a very hard to predict movie, this is a good and bad thing, on one side you've got a story that is constantly throwing twists at you and really throwing you off, on the other hand you really never get attached to any of the characters and who apparently ends up the main character isn't even in the movie til like 55 minutes in. People are CONSTANTLY being shot in the head and killed and JUST when you think "Oh so the movie's about him/her/them/it" This is going to be short because my next week is gonna be crazy, but it's good. It's good enough to watch once, is it great? Not really, it's not Kevin Smith's normal weird humor, it's a very serious film for him and he did an excellent job all things considered. Will I watch it again? Probably not, not a fan of the torture porn genre, which this kinda is, and It's just not a movie I'd want to watch twice, I've seen it. Very little rewatchablity if you ask me.

Marvel's The Avengers

So this movie has been out for awhile now, and is making a ton of money. Is the Hype worth it? Personally, for me I've waited on writing this for two reasons. 1) I've been very busy, obviously there was a lot going on two weeks ago, wrote a blog for myself that was very difficult to write and didn't know how to really "move past" it. and 2) I wanted to wait a bit until my initial "OH MY GOD THAT WAS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER LET'S SEE IT AGAIN!" wore off. So I saw it three times, that has worn off. How do I feel about it now you ask? Some complaints aroused but still very favorable. First some back story. There's not much to this that people don't already know. This movie is the culmination of 5 other films. Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America (although not in that order) If you're an avid reader of my blog you probably know I was less of a fan of thor than most, you also probably realize by now that even movies that I'm not a huge fan of, I can still greatly enjoy them. So out of those 5 the only one that I will legitimately say I don't like is the Hulk. I just found it overly boring.........also where was i going with this? Oh yeah, so for the most part, all of those are enjoyable films. Even Thor which I was critical of was very pretty and still a ton of fun. The bar had been previously set high for this and Marvel Studios was in very unfamiliar territory. They were making a film that was, in my opinion, has never really been accomplished before. using 5 stand alone films to make a movie, also stand alone, that uses the actors and characters from all 5 previous movies in the same universe. If handled wrong, this could have gone down as one of the worst ideas of all time. So, the actors hired were all VERY solid, the directors hired, again great directors. Joss Whedon, Kenneth Branagh, Jon Favreau to name a few. As well as Robert Fucking Downey Jr in the roll of Tony Stark. This was handled with Exceptional care to make sure getting to this point, they would be on solid footing. get up to may 4th 2012, and what we end up with is a great movie. just from beginning to end a non stop thrill ride. The Story is fairly straight forward, and I'm sure that was by design. Had the plot been too complex you wouldn't of had adequate time for the characters to shine through. Basically, powerful object, someone wants it, Loki promises it to said person and is granted an army to help him take over earth in exchange for said powerful object, Avengers must stop him. BUT FIRST they must overcome their differences and learn to work as a single unit, or lose the world to Loki. Complaints - Few, dialogue was good, acting solid, direction really good. So what were my complaints, maybe sometimes it focused a LITTLE to much on iron man. which I will defend and say that makes perfect sense, Robert Downey Jr. is the best actor out of that group why wouldn't you give him the most lines? Why does this upset me? I wanted to see more of Bruce Banner. I'm not a fan of the Hulk movie but I really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo, he was great! That is the stupidest complaint EVER! It's a cast with 5 (you could argue up to 7) main characters, some were going to feel neglected unless it was 6 hours long! Secondly, I felt Scarlett Johansson was slightly miscast. This is nitpicky, she was cast for her hotness, she has said this in an interview. I won't lie, to play a female super hero, you'd be hard pressed to find an actress better suited for it, she basically has a comic book body. I also think Scarlett Johansson is a great Actress, and am a big fan. BUT I felt, to an extent, she wasn't cut out for the super hero role and was easily overshadowed (again this is nit picky BS, a lot of really good actors were cast, not everyone was going to shine) But as the black widow she has a moment where she's trying to get loki to give her his master plan. She tells a story about her how she met Hawkeye, I didn't buy it, why would Loki? The rest of the movie she's playing a cold assassin, so it makes sense she spends most of the movie being emotionless. This was her chance to do some real acting and I felt it was just kinda ehhh. apart from that, this movie was so much fun. Marvel Studios really put together a solid string of films and I'm eagerly anticipating what they're going to do next. Now, if DC could just get their ass in gear and get me some good superman movies!

Eulogy for Barbie

I'm not much of a writer, I openly admit that and don't apologize for it. I don't make a living off of this and I don't expect to it's a hobby. This weekend one of the most wonderful people I'd ever had the pleasure to meet passed away, and I really feel like I want to write something for her. I'm going to just post a couple stories about my memories with Barbara Ann Wherry, just you know the form my grief is taking. So first let me tell you a little about Barb and our relationship. I took her middle daughter, Danielle to prom. Danielle's intentions were to hook me up with her friend Tygre, and she could take Tygre's date. They had worked it out before hand all on the level I swear. Either way, roughly a year later Danielle and I started dating. This was when I finally started to get to know Barb, our relationship obviously started out slow. I was dating one of her girls, and if you could say one thing about Barb, it was that she LOVED her children. There wasn't a man in the world good enough for her Danielle. Strangely, for some reason or another, I started referring to her as "Barbie." One day I simply asked "Does anyone call you Barbie?" and she responded with "Definitely NOT" So, finding myself ABSOLUTELY hilarious, I promptly began calling her barbie. This, for some reason or another, made me endearing. Thinking I could use the same method on her father I started calling him "Billy" that quickly ended, but that's another story. So, after a while I began going on family vacations with the Wherry family. While at Mackinaw Island, I was talking to Barb about pies, and how much I love pie. She asked how much, I said I could eat an entire pie, whether it be pumpkin pie, strawberry pie, blueberry pie, frankenberry pie. At this point Barb stopped me from talking and asked me "What the hell is a FrankenBerry" when she found out it was a cereal she decided she wanted to call my bluff. After she got home she concocted a recipe for FrankenBerry Pie. Apparently, Frankenberry pies are a sort of custard pie, And since I had bragged about being able to eat an entire pie the rule was I had to eat an entire Frankenberry pie. I got about 4 bites in before I wanted to vomit. This was of course recorded, and trust me I never heard the end of it. Imagine eating a pie made of cereal that I'm pretty sure hadn't been made since 1984 mixed with cream! I don't even know how she found Frankenberry, but if there's one thing I respect it's dedication to a joke, she probably had to order the Frankenberry from Japan! Family wedding - Can't remember which family member got married, but we danced to this song. I didn't know this at the time but it was her favorite. Bill was not able to be there, danielle told me afterwards that meant a lot to her because she loved that song. Same wedding I got her only son plastered and he fell outta the van after we got home and vomited on the front lawn.....can't say that she was to happy about that. Again, that one's another story for another time. After I went back to school to attempt to get in to Vet school, I really struggled early on, I busted my ass for this one test and got my grade back at 1030 on a saturday night. I got a 98.8, and I was absolutely thrilled. Danielle was over, she was excited, I called my mom to tell her. My mom had been asleep for a long time, she had been sick that week so I woke her up and the call was really brief. Don't' get me wrong, my mom is Awesome and a wonderful mother. She was tired and me waking her up was more confusing than anything. Also since I'm very quiet I never told her how much I was struggling in this class. Needless to say, I was a little upset that my mom wasn't screaming, I just wanted This reaction.
and it was closer to this
Danielle encouraged me to call her mom. I did, she talked to me for half an hour, by the time I hung up the phone I felt incredible. I'm pretty sure that she was more proud of me than I've ever been. That was Barb for you, if she cared about you and you were excited about something she was just as, if not more excited. Danielle and I split up, I was in a real rough patch, work was awful, I was working constantly and was just stressing myself out, since I was so stressed I stopped sleeping, I went to my doctor she put me on certain meds that made my life harder and started to drive me crazy. So, keep in mind, I was no longer with her daughter, and had REALLY hurt her daughter. She still sent me a card just to say "I know you're struggling keep your head up you can do" I never even thanked her for that card. I was honestly so worried that she was disappointed in me that I didn't open it for weeks after receiving it, but in true Barb fashion, she never judged, she just cared, and despite the fact that I wasn't a member of the family she loved me and wanted me to know she loved me. Sunday May 6th at 230 am I got a call from danielle, she told me her mom had a heart attack and through the sobs I kept waiting for the "I'm on my way to the hospital, she's resting" but that never came. Jim Henson once said that his goal in life was to leave the world a little better than he found it. If I've met one person in my life who could truly say that the world was better because they were in it, It's Barbara Ann Wherry. My life was better because she was in it, and I know that anyone who met her could say the same. She was truly a person who never thought of herself, and she will be forever in my heart. I love you Barbie, you will be missed.

PIrates: Band of Misfits

My final....final is tomorrow. SO, it's 1 o'clock in the morning and I've decided to write a bit of a review about "PiratesL A band of Misfits." From Aardman Entertainment. From the makers of "Chicken Run" and "Wallace and Gromit" comes a movie about a pirate captain, aptly named "Pirate Captain" who wishes to become pirate of the year. apparently, I didn't know this but it's struck up some controversy as well, in a year where movies with graphic anal rape have been released, a movie with clay pirates trying to rescue their Dotto/Parrot is the one that has struck up controversy! The movie begins with pirates below deck in an argument about what is the best thing about being a pirate. Is it the looting, the shiny cutlasses or the chance to cats exotic diseases? When things get their most heated, Pirate Captain emerges to break things up and inform his crew that it's not the loot, the cutlasses, or the scurvy that makes a pirates life so great, IT'S HAM NIGHT! There's some dancing, and Pirate Captain expresses his desire to become pirate of the year. He goes to fill out his application, and other "more deserving pirates" arrive and Pirate Captain feels a sense of shame. His bounty is only up to 12 doubloons, he doesn't have much loot and his shanties just aren't Jaunty enough. Yet, other more deserving pirates shame him in to putting forth an effort regardless. This leads Pirate Captain to the boat of Charles Darwin, a scientist who is studying evolution. Darwin points out to Pirate Captain that his Parrot is in fact a dodo bird and unspeakable treasure will be his if Darwin is allowed to present the dodo at the science convention. Hilarity ensues! The controversy was over a joke when Pirate Captain attacked a ship that turned out to be filled with Lepers, no gold just lepers. An arm then falls off. Here's the blip from wikipedia, I do have other sources but this is the easiest. "In January 2012, it was reported that the latest trailer of The Pirates! attracted some very negative reactions from the leprosy community. In the trailer that was released in December, The Pirate Captain lands on a ship demanding gold, but is told by a crew member, "Afraid we don't have any gold old man, this is a leper boat. See," when his arm falls off.[13] Lepra Health in Action and some officials from the World Health Organization, expressed that the joke shows the illness in a derogatory manner, and it "reinforces the misconceptions which leads to stigma and discrimination that prevents people from coming forward for treatment." They demanded an apology and removal of the offending scene,[14] to which Aardman responded: "After reviewing the matter, we decided to change the scene out of respect and sensitivity for those who suffer from leprosy. The last thing anyone intended was to offend anyone...". LHA responded that it was "genuinely delighted that Aardman has decided to amend the film," while the trailer was expected to be pulled down from websites, [15] and the theatrical version of the film has got the "leper" word replaced with "plague".[16]" Whatever, I thought that was one of the funniest moments in the film, but I guess if I were a leper I'd feel differently? Moving on, I loved this movie. It was slow at times, and isn't Aardman's best movie but it is definitely a fun film. It's right up my alley with it's ridiculous humor, memorable characters, and isn't it fun to just see claymation in theaters? something very nice about movies where occasionally you'll catch a thumb print in one of the characters. If you were a fan of the other two movies mentioned, you'll enjoy this one. It was a ton of fun and is a welcome addition, but if you hadn't seen the others, I'd recommend possibly renting Wallace and Grommit to see if the humor is up your alley, wow 1 o'clock reviews day before exams shouldn't happen. ok Bed time.

Cabin in the Woods

I wish I could go back about 3 years and find the email conversation that i had with my friend Jim, who does the blog I probably Liked it about this movie. Let me discuss work this out for you. I was never a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I thought Sara Michelle Gellar was attractive so I watched essentially 1 season of it before that wore off and I moved on. Flash forward like 5 years, during a time frame when I was reading comics. The same friend, Jim encouraged me to pick up "the Astonishing X-men"written by Joss Whedon. I of course did and enjoyed it until unfortunate circumstances forced me to give up comics (unemployment). So for awhile I moved to Australia, and lived with a German who one day rented Serenity. I watched it with him and loved it. This peaked my interest in Firefly, which was a nice gateway drug to Angel and I've loved Joss Whedon ever since. This brings me to the conversation I was having with Jim. He's always sent me emails about what director signed on to what and what writers are working on what projects. So, one day I get an email that was entitled "This is right up your alley" So I take a look at it and the movie is called Cabin in the Woods, I read the synopsis, which at the time was only 3 lines long and essentially said nothing. I love horror movies, I'd learned to love Joss Whedon, and there were several episodes of Angel, specifically episode 4 of season 5 that made me REALLY excited to see what a horror movie written by Joss whedon and handled by Mutant Enemy productions would be like. Well after it getting pushed back, then for a while I'm pretty sure it was shelved for other reasons, basically I've been waiting for this movie for the greater part of 4 years. Let me say rarely does a movie that I'm anticipating THAT MUCH live up to my expectations. Cabin in the Woods has done that.

For purposes of not giving to much away I will keep most of a plot synopsis out of this, I went in to the movie only having seen 1 trailer and read a 3 sentence summary 4 years ago. SO basically, what you get from the trailer is group of college students go to a cabin in the woods, you've got your basic stereotypes, The jock, the ho, the stoner, the guy who the friends are trying to hook up with their female friend who's kinda the main character, and the virginal main character. Now, let me just say the best part about these characters, is that none of them actually fit the stereotype. That was done on purpose and I loved that. Moving forward, they go to a cabin and hell breaks lose. Apparently, this cabin is more than they bargained for! This is all I will say about the plot. Since I'm keeping that short I'm also going to keep my feelings on the movie short. It was wonderful, it was funny, it still managed to be scary, and it truly felt like Drew Goddard (director/co-writer) and Joss Whedon really made this a labor of love. Mel Brooks has a quote and I can't remember it verbatim, nor can I find it online, SO I'm gonna say it was something along the lines of "to satire something is to love it" BUT since I want to quote him directly, I'm going to add this quote which has nothing to do with anything I just liked it. "I love spaghetti and sex, sometimes together. My dream of heaven is walking naked through fields of pasta fazool." Also he was offered the role of Dr. Loomis in Halloween, I'm REALLY glad he turned that down.

to finish up, SEE THIS MOVIE! If you're a fan of horror you will just absolutely love it. It pokes fun at everything wrong with the genre, and at the same time does so much right that it becomes something more.

Apologizing early

It's time for Midterms, I've two weeks to learn everything that I didn't already know over the semester and relearn everything I did learn over the course of the semester. SO I'm not going to be back til the end of April. Please check back with me then and I'll be writing up a storm I promise.
